We believe card legality and format management is vital element to earning the respect of TCG fans and achieving longevity as a game system.
Our philosophy to card legality has been built into the DNA of our product design and organized play program, and aims to:
- Create dynamic meta-games for constructed tournament play
- Support long term utility of card ownership
Product release dates
New cards become legal for official tournament play on the release date of the product they are from.
Special use promos
The following special use promos are not legal for Classic Constructed, Blitz, or Commoner official tournament play:
- Diamond Hands
- Gavel of Natural Order
- Go Bananas
- Good Deeds Don't Go Unnoticed
- Hummingbird, Call of Adventure
- Pink Visor
- Proclamation of Abundance
- Proclamation of Requisition

Revolving Card Legality - Living Legend
Flesh and Blood uses a revolving card legality model where cards flow in and out of being legal for tournament play.
A tournament legal constructed deck may only include generic cards and cards that share the same class and/or talent as the hero card used. Therefore, it's hero cards which ultimately determine the tournament legality of all non-generic cards that exist in Flesh and Blood.
A hero stops being legal when it has attained Living Legend status.
Becoming a Living Legend
Upon the release date of each standalone or expansion booster set and scheduled banned & restricted announcement, all heroes who have reached the Living Legend points threshold, along with their signature weapon, will attain Living Legend status. The thresholds are:
- Adult heroes - 1000 Living Legend points
- Young heroes - 500 Living Legend points
Gaining Living Legend Points
A hero gains Living Legend points by winning tournaments that award Living Legend points. Living Legend points by event type and the Living Legend leaderboards are available on the page Living Legend below:
Classic Constructed Card Legality
Classic Constructed includes every Flesh and Blood card, with the following exceptions:
- Young hero cards.
- Heroes and weapons that have attained Living Legend status.
- Cards that have been banned or suspended.
- Special use promos.
Living Legend
The following hero cards and their signature weapons (if any) have attained Living Legend status and are not legal in Classic Constructed:
- Bravo, Star of the Show
- Chane, Bound by Shadow + Galaxxi Black
- Oldhim, Grandfather of Eternity + Winter's Wail (as of July 7, 2023)
- Prism, Sculptor of Arc Light + Luminaris
Banned and Suspended
The following cards are banned in Classic Constructed:
- Awakening
- Ball Lightning
- Belittle
- Bloodsheath Skeleta
- Bull's Eye Bracers (as of July 7, 2023)
- Drone of Brutality
- Duskblade
- Plunder Run
- Stubby Hammerers
The following cards are suspended in Classic Constructed:
- Amulet of Ice (until Iyslander becomes Living Legend)
- Hypothermia (until Iyslander becomes Living Legend)
Suspended cards may be unsuspended earlier than the specified time frame.
Blitz Card Legality
Blitz is a fun, fast format, featuring young heroes. Blitz includes every Flesh and Blood card, with the following exceptions:
- Adult hero cards (A hero card must have the "Young" subtype to be legal in Blitz).
- Heroes and weapons that have attained Living Legend status.
- Cards that have been banned or suspended.
- Special use promos.
Living Legend
The following hero cards and their signature weapons (if any) have attained Living Legend status and are not legal in Blitz:
- Iyslander + Kraken's Aethervein
- Oldhim + Winter's Wail
- Viserai + Nebula Blade
Banned and Suspended
The following cards are banned in Blitz:
- Aether Wildfire
- Awakening
- Ball Lightning
- Bloodsheath Skeleta
- Drone of Brutality
- Duskblade
- Heartened Cross Strap
- Mask of the Pouncing Lynx
- Snapback
- Stir the Aetherwind
- Stubby Hammerers
The following cards are suspended in Blitz:
- Seeds of Agony (Until Chane becomes Living Legend)
Suspended cards may be unsuspended earlier than the specified time frame.
Commoner
Commoner is a casual play format featuring young heroes. Commoner includes every Flesh and Blood card that has been printed as a common or token, plus weapons, equipment and heroes that have been printed as rares, with the following exceptions:
- Adult hero cards (A hero card must have the "Young" subtype to be legal in Commoner).
- Cards that have been banned or suspended.
- Special use promos.
The following cards are banned in Commoner:
- Ball Lightning
- Belittle
The following cards are suspended in Commoner:
- None
Ultimate Pit Fight (multiplayer)
Ultimate Pit Fight (UPF) is a casual play format. UPF includes every Flesh and Blood card, including special use promos, with the following exceptions:
- Go Bananas is banned in official events (We encourage play groups to continue to enjoy Go Bananas for social play).
- Yorick, Weaver of Tales is banned in official events (We encourage play groups to continue to enjoy Yorick for social play).
It is recommended that UPF is played using young heroes and adjudicator heroes.
